The number of workplace accidents has fallen by more than 80% in recent years atEiffage Energía, a company that has a major commitment to the prevention of occupational risks within its business group.
Thus, according to the latest data, the Frequency Index, which reflects the number of accidents registered that occur every million hours worked, has been reduced by almost 87% since 2010.
Another important value to take into consideration is the Index of Severity, which expresses the number of working days lost per thousand hours of exposure to occupational risk (worked), whose decline has been about 84% over the same period.
Important data that is produced as a consequence of the measures adopted by the company itself, such as the creation, in the year 2009, of a Joint Prevention Service, originally constituted by Eiffage Energía and its subsidiaries Inelbo and Ambitec, to which the subsidiary Conscytec was also added in 2015.
It is a service consisting of more than 25 Senior Technicians in occupational risk prevention, distributed throughout the different geographical areas in which the Group operates, specialising in all work activities: Electrical Infrastructures, Renewable Energy, Maintenance, Installations, Civil Engineering and Construction.
With the same objective of firm commitment to the prevention of occupational risks, in 2015 Eiffage Energía initiated the call for the Awards for Excellence in Safety and Health to internally recognise the”good practice” of its workers in this field, as a good way to motivate and encourage their professionals, as accidents at work are one of the major concerns of the company.
Among the objectives of these awards is to reward excellent conduct in safety and health at work those employees with higher exposure to risk; to involve the various company managers, who conduct health and safety inspections, to reward the safest conduct and to correct improper conduct or to recognise the collective efforts of the various units.
The award is drawn by the person responsible for the workers and the prevention technician at the end of each quarter.
Another initiative that the company Management has undertaken in 2016 to promote this “good practice” is an information campaign, which includes monitoring the accident rate of the company through the distribution of messages in 45 strategic points of the local offices of the Eiffage Energía Group. It is updated every month, depending on the accidents registered and, under the slogan “Set up Safe Working Conditions”, it is another way of involving employees in this endeavour. La siniestralidad laboral desciende en más de un 80% en los últimos años
These are different initiatives that are achieving very positive results. With respect to this, it is noteworthy that last February (2016) Iberdrola awarded Eiffage Energía with a certificate of recognition for not having had any accidents in the Metering contracts of 2015. A gesture with which the Electric Distribution line of one of Eiffage Energía’s most important customers recognised the Occupational Health and Safety Plan of the company.
These data were reflected in the magazine MMI (Montajes, Mantenimientos y Servicios Industriales)(Assembly, Maintenance and Industrial Services) in its December issue, highlighting the commitment of Eiffage Energía to occupational risk prevention with initiatives that make it a leading company in the sector.
