Rubén Labella Cañada, an Eiffage Energía worker at the local office of Jaén, yesterday received the Cross of Merit with white decoration awarded by the City Council of the Andalusian municipality “for his valuable collaboration with the Local Police Corps, with complete selflessness, regardless of the risk assumed, to save the lives of people affected by a fire”.
The facts for which this Eiffage Energía worker has been decorated date back to November 2018, when he was involved, together with other colleagues, in the rescue of several people victims of a fire in Jaén, from which he was also injured.
Several people had gathered on a balcony to escape the flames and a team of workers led by Rubén Labella, who was a few metres from the event, came to their rescue, using a van from the Eiffage Energía fleet.
With a ladder, several people were able to get down but the last person, who felt threatened by the fire, jumped from the balcony which caused Rubén Labella Cañada to fall, who consequently suffered multisystem trauma and had to be hospitalised, receiving several stitches.
A feat that has been recognised by the Jaén City Council in addition to relatives of the people he helped, who even visited him in hospital.
Rubén, who is 37 years old, has been working for the Jaén local offices of Eiffage Energía for three years as a qualified skilled worker and with this gesture, along with the rest of his colleagues, he has proven to be a very caring person, which is greatly appreciated by the company.
