COMMISSIONING AND INAUGURATION OF THE PARADISE PARK SOLAR POWER STATION IN JAMAICA

Jamaica’s Photovoltaic Solar Plant, Paradise Park, developed mostly by Neoen together with Rekamniar Frontier Ventures and MPC Caribbean Clean Energy Fund, and built by Eiffage, through its subsidiary Eiffage Energía, and Schneider Electric France in Jamaica, is now operational.

This project, located in Westmoreland and whose construction and maintenance has been entrusted to Eiffage Energía, was inaugurated on the 2nd October by Jamaica’s Prime Minister, Andrew Holness.

It should be emphasised that it is a 51.5 MWp solar plant which will provide the Jamaican market with the most competitive electricity in its history by benefiting from a power purchase agreement for 20 years with the Jamaican Public Services Company (JPS), for 85 USD per megawatt/hour.

In this respect, the Prime Minister stressed that “Jamaica can accommodate more renewable energy sources to add up to 50 percent of the electricity of the national grid by 2030, which would also give the country more clean energy options.”

Between the 29th June and the 8th July, the plant’s yield tests were carried out, consisting of dividing the energy injected into the network by the theoretical energy that the photovoltaic modules would generate with the sun irradiation received by the plant. The result is higher than the contractual yield that Eiffage Energía guaranteed to its customer.

Finally, it should be noted that Eiffage Energía Jamaica will be responsible for the maintenance of the solar plant for the next 20 years.
