Eiffage Energía builds the largest solar plant in Europe for Iberdrola. Eiffage Energía was the company responsible for the engineering, construction, non-core supplies, assembly and commissioning of the “Núñez de Balboa” photovoltaic plant. This is the largest photovoltaic plant in Europe that Iberdrola has just commissioned in Usagre (Badajoz). The project represented an investment of close to 300 million euros. The plant, which was built in record time, with construction finishing in December 2019, employed more than 1,200 workers, 70% of them from Extremadura. Furthermore, it will supply energy to 250,000 people/year and avoid the atmospheric emission of 215,000 tonnes of CO2 per year. It has a surface area of nearly 1,000 hectares and more than 1,400,000 solar panels . Moreover, the plant has an installed capacity of 500 MW and its annual production is estimated at 832 GWh. Best Iberdrola supplier Eiffage Energía was awarded the Special Prize for Best Supplier of the Year by Iberdrola in 2019 for its commitment, quality and safety and its contribution to the business by applying its great technological capacity in both the renewables and distribution network areas.
A leader in the construction of photovoltaic facilities
Eiffage Energía has extensive experience in solar projects. It is currently one of the leading companies in the construction of photovoltaic facilities in Spain and internationally. In 2019, Eiffage Energía installed a total of 1,012 MW of photovoltaic power through projects in Spain, Mexico, Chile and Jamaica. Of these, more than 750 MW were installed in Spain, making Eiffage Energía one of the companies that has built the most facilities of this type in the country. That’s because one of the company’s mainstays is renewable energies, a sector in which it has been working for more than 20 years. Eiffage Energía is responsible for nearly 80% of the Eiffage Group’s renewables activity worldwide, avoiding the atmospheric emission of more than 10 million tonnes of CO2 per year. Among the major projects commissioned in 2019, the Huatacondosolar plant, “S4 Solar”, one of the most important solar projects in Chile, with 103 MW, is worth highlighting. Eiffage Energía also built, together with Schneider Electric France, the Paradise Park plant in Jamaica, which was connected to the grid last year. This is one of the largest solar plants in the Caribbean, providing the Jamaican market with the most competitive electricity in its history
