Our CEO and representative of Eiffage in Spain, José Manuel Martínez, has held a meeting with the president of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page; and the Minister of Sustainable Development, José Luis Escudero. The aim of this meeting was to inform them about our company’s projects.
After the meeting, Mr. Martínez thanked the regional president for the opportunity to share details about the evolution of Eiffage Energía, which is forecast to grow 18% in 2022. “Considering that our core business is renewable energies and the construction of related evacuation infrastructure, it is extremely clear that this is a very positive evolution”, he stated.
Second largest photovoltaic installation company internationally, and the largest in Spain
The CEO of Eiffage Energía emphasised that “we are the second largest photovoltaic producer at an international level, from Spain, from Castilla-La Mancha, from Albacete” and the number one nationwide.
In this sense, he explained that “part of Castilla-La Mancha’s wealth is the sun and the wind, which are readily available in extremely favourable geographical conditions”. These factors that “must help us to make it a reality for Castilla-La Mancha to continue on the path of becoming a leader in the generation and export of kilowatts/hour of renewables, hand-in-hand with its regional government; they must also help with sustainable development, which needs to be part of our development these days”.
“Eiffage Energía’s projects will keep Castilla-La Mancha at the forefront of the development of clean energy in the country,” said the Minister of Sustainable Development. In this regard, Escudero stressed that the regional government will continue to encourage public-private partnerships in the renewables sector. A commitment that, in just one year, “has mobilized 500 million euros of investment in Castilla-La Mancha, as well as creating 2,500 jobs”.
Leaders in the development of renewables in Spain in the first three months of 2022
The head of Sustainable Development also recalled that the Autonomous Community is leading the development of renewables in Spain in the first three months of 2022: “Castilla-La Mancha is the region that has most increased its ‘renewable’ energy mix, incorporating over 250 new megawatts of clean energy; 147 MW of photovoltaic energy; and 104.5 MW of wind power,” he explained. For the Minister, these data are a true reflection of the commitment being made by the García-Page government to develop renewables in its territory, consolidating the Autonomous Community as a national benchmark in the production of renewable energies after “exceeding for the first time the 8,000 megawatts (8,423 MW) of installed electricity power from renewable sources. This means that 78% of our regional mix, 21 points more than the Spanish average, is already made up of clean energies”, he said. Finally, he concluded that “it is important in the current energy context to take advantage of our resources”; he stressed that “it is worth highlighting the example that yesterday, in our country, thanks to the sun and the wind, electricity was almost free for seven hours”.
On this subject, the CEO of Eiffage Energía pointed out that “the price situation is in constant evolution, and it must be adjusted at its margins. But they can certainly compete efficiently against obsolete generation models, such as fossil fuels. And the consumer should notice it, as long as we can decouple the sale price from fuels of last resort, such as gas”.
