- The aim of the #supporttheSDG campaign is to act as a loudspeaker to achieve a multiplier effectand to raise awareness and work on Agenda 2030.
- Corporate governance based on the SDGs creates new business opportunities, improves stakeholder relations and promotes innovation.
In order to publicly strengthen the value of its commitment and raise awareness among its stakeholders, Eiffage Energía joins the #supporttheSDG campaign launched by UN Global Compact Spain, an initiative to which it belongs, to work on the promotion of these United Nations Goals. The aim is to act, based on its own commitment to the SDGs, as a loudspeaker and to achieve a multiplier effect for raising awareness of the goals and working on them through communication materials that will be broadcast on its channels.
In 2010 Eiffage Energía joined UN Global Compact, the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative. Since the approval of Agenda 2030 in 2015, in addition to its commitment to promoting the Ten Principles, it has worked to bring its corporate management into line with the SDGs, where it finds new business opportunities, improves its relationship with stakeholders and promotes innovation.
In this regard, Eiffage Energía has put in place a series of commitments and good practices aligned with its strategy. These include a commitment to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 46%, and Scope 3 by 30%, all by 2030; a commitment to align with the SBT initiative, with the pathway to 1.5°; and a target to reduce the rate of accidents in the workplace involving sick leave to 3 by 2025.
Our CEO and managing director of Eiffage in Spain, José Manuel Martínez, highlights that “Eiffage Energía is committed to making the Global Compact and its principles part of the culture and day-to-day business, and to participate in collaborative projects to advance the Sustainable Development Goals among employees, business partners and customers. Each year we are committed to embracing, promoting and raising awareness of the ten principles of the UN Global Compact in our strategy”.
With this type of action, the UN Global Compact Spain and its member organisations seek to contribute to Agenda 2030 and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals, a task which, in these times of crisis and uncertainty, offers the formula for creating the sustainable future that the world needs.
Boosting the contribution of business to sustainable development
It has been seven years since the approval by the United Nations General Assembly of Agenda 2030 and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It was a unanimous decision by the 193 participating States, including Spain. “Leave no one behind” is at the heart of the agreement. The SDGs propose to end poverty and hunger, reduce inequalities and address urgent challenges such as climate change.
To achieve such an ambitious Agenda, it was agreed that the participation of everyone – governments, companies, civil society and citizens around the world – is necessary. Its strength comes from the universal nature of the agreement and the ambition of its 169 goals. Achieving them requires an unprecedented effort from all sectors of society, and business has an important role to play. Achieving the SDGs requires a combined push from the public sector, business, investors and civil society.
We are living in an unprecedented era marked by major global challenges such as the climate crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic and an increase in the number of conflicts worldwide. This critical situation is jeopardising the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
Now more than ever, it is important to mobilise and act in favour of sustainable development to continue to make a positive impact on people and the planet.
