Valencia has become a city renowned for its high quality of life, its commitment to sustainability, and its ability to attract national and international talent, as evidenced by the establishment of companies and start-ups that view the city as a desirable place to settle.
The second edition of the CleanConnectVLC program is proving successful in this context. This initiative is promoted by the Valencia City Council, through València Activa and AVAESEN under the auspices of Global StartupCities.
Five startups were selected in the final phase to develop pilot projects with funding from the Valencia City Council and four major companies in the region, including Eiffage Energía Sistemas together with Hidraqua, the Gimeno-Obremo Group and Valencia Port.
Obtaining new tools to ensure the energy and water efficiency of cities, being able to provide companies with energy investment plans tailored to their needs in real time, and anticipating unexpected weather changes to ensure logistics operations in ports are among the challenges posed by major corporations for the second edition of the CleanConnectVLC program. Challenges for which Manu Work (Chile), The Predictive Company (Barcelona), ImpactE (Valencia), Vianova I/O (France), and Wakaru (Portugal) have found solutions.
Artificial intelligence
Thus, Eiffage Energía Sistemas will collaborate on a pilot project with the startup The Predictive Company, which won the award for the most innovative project.
Using artificial intelligence, we will improve the energy efficiency of a 50,000 square metre building without investing in new equipment; utilising data analytics and intelligent control of systems to reduce its bills by 20%; and to prevent the emission of 3.7 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere every month.
This type of artificial intelligence makes it possible, for instance, to anticipate an increase in energy prices and adjust the heating, or to take advantage of sunnier days to store energy.
European Capital of Cleantech Startups
The aim is to position Valencia as the European Capital of Cleantech Startups, as well as to enhance the city’s employability and contribute to climate mitigation.
Marcos J. Lacruz, the president of AVAESEN, stated that Clean Connect “enables us to achieve a dual objective. On the one hand, to develop solutions with a high level of innovation; and on the other, to attract startup talent to Valencia, in order to work alongside leading corporations. We have accomplished this in only two years.”
