In a joint venture with Tr Construya, Eiffage Energía Sistemas will install several photovoltaic solar panels on canopies at the “El Carmen” University Campus of the University of Huelva.
These installations will be located at three car parks on the Campus, These locations are:
- • the esplanade behind the Law School;
- • the electric vehicle charging area next to the School of Experimental Sciences;
- • and the car park behind the Infrastructure Service building.
Specifically, the scope of Eiffage Energía Sistemas’ work includes:
- • the construction of several solar photovoltaic installations on new car park canopies;
- • the installation of six new electric vehicle charging points;
- • all the design engineering;
- • health and safety study and coordination;
- • and project management.
Carbon footprint reduction
This work is part of the University of Huelva’s policy of becoming more self-sufficient, saving on electricity bills and reducing its carbon footprint.
The canopy installations with photovoltaic panels form part of the University’s strategy to manage rising electricity costs in 2023. These investments include initiatives such as the Energy Saving Plan and replacing all outdoor lighting on the ‘El Carmen’ and ‘La Rábida’ campuses with LED fixtures.
Sustainable university
These initiatives are steering the University towards enhanced energy sustainability in the present and for years to come.
Electricity production is estimated at 963,096 kWh. This would amount to 14% of the annual electricity demand of the entire “El Carmen” Campus. This is elevenfold the amount currently being generated.
This project augments existing initiatives in three buildings at the ‘El Carmen’ Campus. The façade of the José Isidoro Morales lecture hall; and the roofs of the Juan Agustín de Mora and University Dining Hall buildings.
