This is the title of the interview with Matías Gotor Scasso, head of Renewable Energy Business Development at Energética XXI Eiffage Energía Sistemas. The interview is part of a series of discussions the magazine has had with some of the most significant EPC companies in our country regarding the current state of the major photovoltaic plants construction sector.
Among the responses from various participants, there’s a notable concern regarding administrative challenges when carrying out photovoltaic projects, as well as a shortage of qualified personnel. Nonetheless, there is a consensus that the year 2024 will be highly positive for the sector due to the global commitment to renewables, especially solar power.
Trends
On the most significant trends in the photovoltaic plant construction sector, Matías Gotor emphasised the digitalization and automation of the construction process. “We are implementing advanced design and construction technologies, including the use of 3D modelling software and drones for inspections,” he says.
He states that at Eiffage Energía Sistemas, “we have embraced the use of Digital Terrain Models (DTM), enabling us to optimise earthwork calculations, significantly reducing implementation costs and ensuring a more efficient and profitable solar plant operation in terms of OPEX”.
Another crucial aspect is sustainability and the use of innovative materials. “Emerging technologies in solar panels promise higher efficiency and a lower environmental impact”, he mentions.
Regarding storage, our company is advancing the hybridization of technologies as a crucial component for the future of photovoltaic and wind projects.
Business outlook
The Head of Renewable Energy Business Development at Eiffage Energía Sistemas also talks about regulatory challenges and how the company is navigating them across different regions or countries, as well as business outlooks.
On this last point, Matías Gotor believes that, looking towards 2024, “we foresee a positive and significant evolution in the EPC business for renewable generation plants”. He explains that we are witnessing sustained growth in the renewable energy sector, driven by a global urgency to shift towards cleaner and more sustainable energy sources.
