Seiasa has awarded Eiffage Energía Sistemas a project worth over €10 million to implement renewable energy and upgrade associated pumping equipment for the Príncipe de España Irrigation Community (Albacete). The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
The Príncipe de España Irrigation Community comprises approximately 500 community farmers cultivating over 3,000 hectares.
The project, with a timeline of 18 months, involves the installation of photovoltaic solar energy in a self-consumption mode with no surplus fed into the grid, preventing the release of 1,972 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere annually.
This initiative aims to replace part of the current electricity usage with renewable energy, with all work conducted within the municipal area of Albacete (Aguas Nuevas). Seiasa estimates the total energy output from these farms at 26.7 GWh per year.
The photovoltaic installations are divided into seven farms
The Vereda Reservoir Photovoltaic Farm: with a capacity of 2.4 MW, this farm includes 4,520 monocrystalline photovoltaic modules of 540 W each, and 18 multi-string inverters of 110 kVA across an area of 11,676 m². Energy production is estimated at 4.9 GWh/year.
Manzano Photovoltaic Farm: a 1 MW installation comprising 2,000 monocrystalline solar panels of 540 W and 8 multi-string inverters of 110 kVA across an area of 5,167 m². Energy production is estimated at 2.15 GWh/year.
El Pasico Reservoir Solar Farm: equipped with 5,160 monocrystalline photovoltaic modules of 540 W and 20 multi-string inverters of 110 kVA across 13,330 m². Energy production is estimated at 5.5 GWh/year.
Salobral Photovoltaic Farm: this 1.5 MW farm comprises 4,080 monocrystalline solar modules of 540 W and 16 multi-string inverters of 110 kVA over 7,233 m². Energy production is estimated at 3 GWh/year.
Salobral, Pozo Cortés Photovoltaic Farm: a 691 kW installation with 1,280 monocrystalline solar panels of 540 W and 5 multi-string inverters of 110 kVA across an area of 3,307 m². Energy production is estimated at 1,367 MWh/year.
Casa Combro Solar Farm: a 140 kW farm consisting of 260 monocrystalline solar panels of 540 W, arranged in 13 series of 20, and one 110 kVA multi-string inverter over 672 m². Energy production is estimated at 276 MWh/year.
Fuente, El Charco Solar Farm: with a capacity of 2.3 MW, this farm includes 4,280 monocrystalline panels of 540 W and 17 multi-string inverters of 110 kVA across 11,056 m². Energy production is estimated at 4.6 GWh/year.
Pozo de los Pinos Solar Farm: a 1.9 MW installation with 3,600 monocrystalline photovoltaic modules of 540 W and 14 multi-string inverters of 110 kVA across 9,300 m². Energy production is estimated at 3.8 GWh/year.
In total, 23,900 photovoltaic modules of 540 Wp will be installed on single-axis N-S horizontal solar trackers, resulting in significant electricity savings upon project completion.
Replacement of pumping equipment
To improve the energy efficiency of the equipment, the replacement of two motor pump groups in the Pasico and Madriguera areas is also part of the work.
A pump number 3 of SAT El Pasico, in Vereda; and the replacement of pump number 2 of SAT Madriguera, in Fuente El Charco.
The project will be 80% subsidized with EU funds associated with the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
Internal synergies
Once again, synergies are being created between the different business areas of Eiffage Energía Sistemas, as this project will be carried out by the Renewable Energy and Territorial Centro Redes departments.
