Eiffage Energía Sistemas is to build the Tabernas III photovoltaic plant in Almería for Aquila Clean Energy. This project, with a capacity of 37.50 MW, will generate 76.61 GWh per year, contributing significantly to the production of renewable energy in the region, reaching some 21,000 homes and avoiding some 16,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere per year.
The scope of works includes not only the construction of the plant, but also the feed-in infrastructure necessary to connect to the Red Eléctrica Española grid. The installation will be equipped with advanced technology, such as 2V solar trackers, Trina 615 Wp modules and SUNGrow inverters.
In addition, priority will be given to hiring local companies from Almeria during its development. Estimated employment during the construction of the facility is around 170 workers for one year. In the operating phase, approximately 90 direct permanent jobs are estimated.
Environmental measures
Environmental measures will be implemented in this project, such as the installation of three ponds and four cairns on the perimeter. Also, 30 nest boxes are to be installed, 10 for bats, 10 for European Rollers and 10 for other birds; 30 shelters for insects; a plant screen is to be planted with native species around the solar plant; a programme for the recovery and conservation of the Linaria nigricans species is to be carried out; and the topsoil containing the seed bank will be conserved.
Other projects for Aquila Clean Energy
This plant is in addition to other projects carried out by Eiffage Energía Sistemas for Aquila Clean Energy, such as the 27.6 MW Nijarmar photovoltaic plant in Lucainena de las Torres (Almería), scheduled to come into operation in the first quarter of 2025.
In addition, in 2023, the company completed the 42 MW El Cuco photovoltaic plant in Montealegre del Castillo (Albacete). This facility already supplies clean energy to 19,500 homes per year.
Environmental integration and sustainability
In order to promote the ecological transition, Aquila Clean Energy’s solar power plants include the implementation of measures for the integration and renaturation of the environment.
In all the projects carried out for Aquila Clean Energy, Eiffage Energía Sistemas has implemented measures that reinforce the sustainability and integration of the plants in their environment. In the case of El Cuco, in Montealegre del Castillo, a plan was developed for crop diversification and rotation, replanting of vegetation under the solar panels, and a plant screen that integrates the installation with the landscape. Measures were also adopted to protect fauna, such as the compensation of habitats for steppe birds in an area of 72 hectares, the installation of 15 nesting boxes and 3 drinking troughs. These actions reflect the commitment of Eiffage Energía Sistemas and Aquila Clean Energy to the ecological transition and preservation of the natural environment. With Tabernas III, both companies reinforce their commitment to renewable energies and sustainable development in Spain.
