Eiffage Energía will be responsible for rewiring the low-voltage power installation at the Tabacalera building located in Madrid. The works will take place mainly in the basement and ground floor of the building. The project was awarded last July and is one of the latest tenders to be won by the company with its headquarters in Albacete.
Tabacalera stands as an iconic building in terms of culture and art. Located in Calle Embajadores No. 53 in Madrid, it has a surface area of approximately 28,000 square metres. The building was built as the Royal Factory of Spirits and Playing Cards at the end of the 18th century, and after a brief period of operation, was converted into a tobacco and snuff factory until the end of the 20th century. The factory closed its doors in late 2000 and since 2002 it has been listed as an Asset of Cultural Interest.
The passage of history has left its mark on its walls and on the premises. The building has many shortcomings, which is why it was deemed necessary to carry out a new low-voltage wiring installation, parallel to the existing one, as marked by current regulations.
Eiffage Energía will carry out the rewiring works in the basement, ground floor, outbuildings and external lighting of the south patio to allow the activities of the Lavapiés Community Network to continue at the facilities. The Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport signed an agreement with this collective for the use and creation of the “La Tabacalera de Lavapiés” Self-Managed Social Centre (CSA).
The Tabacalera Artistic Promotion initiative is currently managed by the Department of Fine Arts Promotion of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport The facilities are used for exhibitions and temporary activities around photography, contemporary art and the media arts. In addition, the former Tobacco Factory will be turned into a new cultural centre linked to the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid . The new facilities will not be a new venue or branch, but instead, the Museum will have a “showcase” role focused on avant-garde exhibits.
As a company specialising in electrical installations, Eiffage Energía continues to add new projects. which provides electrical support and offering a professional and high-quality service. Tabacalera is the latest project to add to Eiffage Energía’s experience in the field of electrical infrastructure all over the world.
