Naturally, Eiffage Energía considers the development of environmentally friendly measures that respect biodiversity and the efficient use of energy to be a fundamental factor during the course of its business. As part of this, to tie-in with the celebration of World Environment Day, emphasis should be placed on a series of company initiatives run by Eiffage’s Intra-group Department of Sustainable Development and Innovation, aimed at environmental protection and biodiversity. Bird Protection Eiffage Energía has over 20 years’ consolidated experience in bird protection. Almost every day, the teams in charge of this service carry out this type of work, which is closely linked to High Voltage works, to protect bird life and minimise the impact on nature. Power lines and substations interact with all the environmental elements, including animals and birds. The main cause of unnatural deaths of birds in developed countries is their interaction with electricity transmission and distribution infrastructure. Eiffage Energía currently has an agreement with the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and the Environment for the protection of bird life, which establishes that high voltage lines with bare conductors located in the protection zone listed in the inventory of hazardous lines must be adapted. This service involves the correction of high- and medium voltage electricity lines to protect bird life against collision with and electrocution on high voltage electricity lines. Biodiversity + Competitiveness, a possible equation Since 2009, Eiffage has shown a commitment to biodiversity through actions under its three charters: Sustainable Development, Biodiversity, Water and Aquatic Environments. Since July 2018, Eiffage has been part of the Act4Nature programme , through which 65 French companies confirm their commitment to preserving biodiversity in the run-up to the UN Conference on Biodiversity in Beijing in 2020. Similarly, it should be noted that the main banks have recently granted Eiffage a credit facility of two million euros, thanks to its environmental and carbon strategy. A specific response to climate emergency, demonstrating the group’s commitment, anticipation and action in the face of climate change. Other notable environmental-protection actions are, for example, a CDTI project led by Eiffage Energía, which allows the prevention of forest fires by guaranteeing the safety of areas of forest where high voltage lines coexist with trees and vegetation; and measures such as the elimination of plastic cups in all of the company’s offices.
