GOUVAES HYDROELECTRIC POWER PLANT. Eiffage Energía has been contracted by Nexans Iberia to perform work on the 400-kW underground line of the Gouvaes hydroelectric power plant on the Tâmega River, in Portugal.
The project will house four 400-kW generators, a transformer cavern with a length of 80 metres, and a vertical pit, with a maximum height of 300 metres and a diameter of 7 metres.
The work consists of installing fittings in the gallery, pit and transformer cavern; laying earthing cables; and laying the underground power cable for the four 400-kV circuits. The underground cable is being laid in three parts. From the Gis substation, passing through the sloping pit access gallery; the installation of 300 vertical metres in the pit; and the transformer cavern gallery. A total of around 900 supports will be installed, where the cables will be housed in their final positions, and around 9000 metres of 400-kV cable will be laid.
Tâmega Hydroelectric Complex
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-whMxxsZvU This project is part of the Tâmega Hydroelectric Complex being developed by the Iberdrola group in northern Portugal. It includes three plants: Gouvães, Daivões and Alto Tâmega, with a combined capacity of 1,158 MW. This is an engineering project at the highest level to build the largest gigabattery in Europe. The Gouvães plant will be reversible, i.e., it will make it possible to store water from the Daivões reservoir in the Gouvães reservoir. Taking advantage of the 650+ metres difference in elevation between the two. This enables energy to be pumped out when there is surplus production and recovered when needed.
Its storage capacity will allow for continuous supply of electricity to the Porto metropolitan area for 24 hours.
Eiffage Energía, one of the leading companies in the high voltage sector
It should be noted that Eiffage Energía has already worked for Nexans in one of Red Eléctrica’s most important investments: the undersea interconnection between Mallorca and Ibiza. A project that was considered a technological challenge at the highest level. Eiffage Energía, through its High Voltage department, participates in almost all the major electrical infrastructure projects carried out in Spain. Our experience in high-voltage lines has made us one of the most specialised companies at national and international level. With the capacity to take on comprehensive HV projects with any scope and level of technical difficulty anywhere in the world: engineering, supply, construction, operation and maintenance for transmission and distribution lines and substations.
