The President of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page, has inaugurated the Repetco multilayer plastic recycling plant built by Eiffage Energía Sistemas on the Romica industrial estate in Albacete. A project carried out by the Electrical Installations and Mechanical Installations Departments and our subsidiary Conscytec.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the CEO of Eiffage Energía Sistemas, José Manuel Martínez, accompanied by the National Director of Distribution and Installations, Domingo Molina, as well as the Director of Eiffage Conscytec, Asensio Vicente Rodríguez.
With this plant, the company is putting Albacete and Castilla-La Mancha on the map of industrial development and innovation, by launching a project with cutting-edge technology and a new circular economy model.
Pioneering technology
The technology developed at REPETCO is groundbreaking and revolutionary, and in this first phase will enable the recycling of around 75,000 tonnes per year of packaging from the food industry that was previously buried or incinerated, according to the company’s CEO, Rafael Sánchez-Castillo Lodares.
REPETCO’s technology converts these plastics into rPET pellets that can be reused in a variety of applications, including bottles, the food industry, textiles, the automotive industry, and many other purposes.
The 100% clean and sustainable plant does not require the use of toxic components to recycle packaging and is a circular economy and plastic recycling initiative that is unique in the world. One of the great challenges facing the food industry.
The REPETCO plant has a maximum input capacity of 150,000 tonnes of plastic per year, although the estimated average initial recycling capacity of waste from the food industry is 75,000 tonnes.
First circular industrial estate in Castilla-La Mancha
Furthermore, this action is part of the “Romica-Circular” project, which makes this industrial estate the first circular estate in Castilla-La Mancha.
The recycling plant built by Eiffage Energía Sistemas consists of six adjoining bays for the different recycling processes, as well as an office and R&D building and auxiliary facilities rooms. It also has auxiliary facilities, such as an industrial waste water treatment plant (WWTP); a tertiary treatment plant for the reuse of water treated in the WWTP in industrial processes; a truck wash, etc.
The structure and walls of the buildings will be made of prefabricated concrete. Emphasis should be placed on its heights of up to 20 metres and spans of up to 33 metres.
In addition, it has a CCTV and intrusion prevention system to guarantee the security of the plant’s assets, allowing the security forces to be alerted in the event of any intrusion into the facilities.
