Eiffage Energía, through its Chilean subsidiary, has been awarded two contracts for the construction of the solar photovoltaic plant Quilapilún in Chile, for a total of altogether 34 million dollars (30.5 million euros). The plant will have an installed capacity of 110 megawatts (MW), it will be built for SunEdison, the company that promotes it, near the capital, Santiago, and will be one of the largest in the country and the most developed in Latin America. The first of the contracts, for $ 16 million (14.4 million euros), includes the plant’s civil works. The work has just begun and at the moment the area is being fenced, the materials are being supplied and the topographical study is in process. The second contract, for $ 18 million (16.1 million euros), includes the complete electromechanical assembly of the plant. Previously, SunEdison had awarded Eiffage Energía Chile Quilapilún substation’s detailed engineering.

The installation, which will have more than 350,000 photovoltaic modules will generate 242 gigawatt per hour of electricity per year, an amount sufficient to supply 117,000 households.

In addition, it will avoid the emission of over 125,000 tons of carbon dioxide a year, equivalent to taking 28,000 cars off the Chilean roads.

This project helps in advancing Eiffage Energía’s position as a leader in the market of non-conventional renewable energy in Chile. In this way, Eiffage Energía through its subsidiary in Chile will participate in the implementation of more than 300 photovoltaic MW for its customer SunEdison, which represents more than 30% of the total of installed power in Chile to date. Some of photovoltaic projects in which it has participated are: Javiera, San Andrés and María Elena. http://www.expansion.com/Quilapilun
